Multiple accident on Cipularang Toll Road due to truck braking

Purwakarta - A pile-up involving three vehicles on the Cipularang Toll Road KM 91+800 was caused by a truck experiencing braking problems, said Senior Manager Representative Office 3 Jasa Marga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division Agni Mayvinna.

"The incident occurred on Friday (21/2), at around 17.50 WIB," he said in a statement in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, Saturday.

The pile-up involving two trucks and one minibus on the Cipularang Toll Road resulted in one truck overturning and its load spilling onto the road.

He explained that the traffic accident involved three vehicles, namely one truck loaded with mattresses and calcite, and another truck loaded with paper, as well as an Innova minibus.

Based on statements from officers in the field, the accident is suspected to have been caused by a truck experiencing braking problems and the driver failing to control the speed of the vehicle so that when passing KM 92+500 the truck hit an Innova minibus.

After hitting the minibus, the truck continued to drive until it hit another truck at KM 91+800 and overturned until it ended up on its side.

As a result of this accident, the truck's load of paper and alkasite powder (plaster mixture) spilled onto the road.

Jasa Marga officers assisted by the Purwakarta District Fire Department conducted cleaning and spraying at the location. Jasa Marga also deployed a fleet of mini loaders to speed up the evacuation of the spilled cargo.

There were no fatalities in the pileup. However, one person suffered serious injuries and two others suffered minor injuries.

Agni said all victims had been taken to Abdul Radjak Hospital, Purwakarta for further treatment.
