Jakarta - Google Messages is reportedly working on integrating WhatsApp to provide WhatsApp video calling service features directly from Messages.
Android Authority found integration instructions to enable WhatsApp video calling in Google Messages v20250131 and managed to enable the feature.
According to an Android Authority report on Friday (7/2), Google Messages displays call and video call icons at the top right of each conversation.
When a user taps on the video icon in Google Messages, the WhatsApp video call option will be displayed and tapping on it directly will initiate a video call via WhatsApp.
However, this only applies to one-on-one chats with interlocutors who have also installed the WhatsApp application.
If the chat is done with a person who is not using the WhatsApp application, the user will not see the WhatsApp video call option and will be redirected to a Google Meet video call.
In group chats, the video calling option in Messages also defaults to Google Meet.
According to GSM Arena , the video calling feature in Google Messages is still in development and it is not clear when it will be launched.
The feature will likely be available in the next few weeks, and the features that are launched may not be exactly the same as those currently being shown.
