Google introduces improved online fraud protection features

Jakarta - Technology company Google is presenting improved features to protect against online fraud to support security efforts in the digital space.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid appreciates Google's move to launch the Enhanced Fraud Protection feature to complement the Google Play Protect service for Android device users.

"I appreciate and congratulate you because today we have launched a new feature that can protect," said Meutya at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday.

According to him, the presence of this feature shows the commitment of technology companies to supporting protection efforts in the digital space.

Google Indonesia's Director of Government Relations and Public Policy Putri Alam explained that the Enhanced Fraud Protection feature can minimize the dangers of installing applications on devices that are carried out from outside the Google Play application store access.

Putri said that according to the findings of the Global Anti Scam Alliance (GASA) in 2023, at least around 50 percent of smartphone users were exposed to online fraud in the last 12 months.

Therefore, Google presents continuously improved protection features such as Enhanced Fraud Protection to help close the gap in the capabilities of the Android operating system, called sideloading , which is often abused by fraudsters.

Sideloading , among other things, allows Android users to install an application from another access outside the Google Play app store.
