Beijing - Former foreign minister Hassan Wirajuda said that Indonesian representatives abroad can at least provide legal rights as a form of minimal protection for Indonesian citizens (WNI) who experience problems while abroad.
"Indonesian representatives in foreign countries must ensure that the guarantee of legal rights of Indonesian citizens who experience problems is not reduced, for example by providing assistance in the form of an interpreter or if they are tried in court, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) must hire a lawyer, that is something that is easier and can be done routinely," Hassan Wirajuda told Antara in Beijing on Wednesday (19/2).
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recorded the resolution of 60,122 cases involving Indonesian citizens abroad or equivalent to 89 percent of the 67,297 cases handled in 2024.
