Jakarta - The Australian Embassy is holding a fashion exchange program to facilitate three renowned Indonesian designers to share experiences and knowledge about batik in Melbourne, Australia.
“They will depart for Melbourne this Sunday to share their insights with Australian audiences on the importance of batik culture and fashion as part of Melbourne Fashion Week,” said Australian Chargé d’Affaires to Indonesia Gita Kamath at a gala dinner in Jakarta on Thursday.
Kamath said that Australia and Indonesia have built a very strong partnership through various collaborations in fashion diplomacy, which combines creativity, talent and a shared passion for innovation.
This exchange program is a return visit from the Emerging Designers Bootcamp for Jogja Fashion Week 2024, a program held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Australia-Indonesia diplomatic relations involving three Australian designers.
The three designers, Auguste Soesastro, Lia Mustafa and Nonita Respati, will also showcase some of their latest collections and interact with Australian fashion designers and creative industries to learn more about the importance of sustainability and cultural connections in the fashion sector from an Australian perspective.
