Trump insists Egypt, Jordan will accept Palestinians from Gaza

Washington - US President Donald Trump on Thursday (30/1) reiterated his controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan, insisting that the two countries would comply with his plan despite their repeated rejections.

"They're going to do it. They're going to do it. They're going to do it, OK? We've done a lot for them, and they're going to do it," Trump told reporters when asked if he would consider steps to pressure Cairo and Amman to accept his plan.

Last weekend, Trump called for Gaza to be “cleaned up” and Palestinians to be relocated to Egypt and Jordan, calling the territory a “demolition site” due to Israel’s genocidal war.

However, both countries firmly reject any form of displacement or expulsion of Palestinians from their land.

Trump's proposal came after a ceasefire agreement went into effect in Gaza on January 19, suspending Israel's war.

The war has killed more than 47,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children, since a cross-border offensive by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, according to Gaza health authorities.

Nearly 1,200 people were killed on October 7 in Israel and 250 were taken to Gaza as hostages, according to official figures.

Trump's proposal has drawn widespread condemnation, with critics calling it a form of "ethnic cleansing" and a "war crime."

Many countries in the Muslim and Arab world, as well as some European countries such as France, have firmly rejected the idea.
