Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta assessed that the ceasefire agreed between Palestine and Israel was a victory for the Palestinian people and humanity as well as a new chapter in the struggle for Palestine to achieve independence.
"We hope that this ceasefire will be implemented consistently and comprehensively in accordance with the contents of the agreement," said Anis in his statement on social media Facebook, Thursday.
The response came after the Indonesian government issued an official statement regarding the ceasefire between Palestine and Israel that was achieved and announced in Qatar.
Anis said that Indonesia, which has always supported the Palestinian struggle for independence, needs to appreciate the ceasefire as a moment of victory for justice and humanity.
"This support is a manifestation of the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to participate in implementing world order based on freedom, eternal peace and social justice," said Anis.
He also encouraged the Indonesian people and the international community to contribute through humanitarian aid and assistance in other fields to rebuild the Gaza Strip which had been destroyed by war.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also stated that the international community must not forget Israel's atrocities in Gaza and support the International Criminal Court (ICC) in holding Israel accountable for the genocide they have committed against the Palestinian people.
Previously, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani announced the achievement of a ceasefire agreement to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza on Wednesday (15/1) in Doha, Qatar.
He said the ceasefire agreement consisted of three stages which came into effect on Sunday (19/1).
The ceasefire deal includes the release of hostages and a prisoner exchange, a cessation of fighting, security guarantees for Israel and humanitarian aid entering Gaza.
The agreement, negotiated through mediation by Qatar, Egypt and the US, is also said to include plans for dialogue on the future governance of the Gaza Strip and the reconstruction of the Palestinians territory
