Albanian PM denies Israeli media claims about Gaza displacement

ISTANBUL - Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday denied Israeli media reports claiming that his government was in talks with the United States about accepting up to 100,000 Palestinians from Gaza."I haven't heard such fake news for a long time - and there has been a lot of it lately! It is absolutely not true," Rama wrote in X.The Albanian leader expressed "full respect and solidarity with the people of Gaza, who have been degraded by the cruel Hamas regime and have suffered from a terrible war in the second year of the genocide in Gaza," he said. However, he stressed that Albania has not been asked by anyone to accept refugees, and is "not even considering the possibility of taking on such a responsibility."Rama highlighted Albania's "deep friendship" with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and "the Palestinian people, whose state Albania has recognized for a long time."He stressed that Albania, as a European country, is not located in the Middle East, and cannot do more than other European countries in that regard."However, we hope and pray that the Palestinian people will be given the opportunity to live in their own country, as free people under a democratic government, and that Hamas will never again be able to harm Israel -- or, most importantly, the Palestinian people themselves," he said.Earlier, Israeli media reported that Israel viewed US President Donald Trump's proposal for Jordan and Egypt to accept Palestinian refugees as unrealistic, prompting Washington to explore other options, including Albania. The report comes amid growing international pressure to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.Source: Anadolu-OANA
