Scholz: No place for Islamism and anti-Semitism in Germany

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on the shooting incident near the Israeli Consulate General in Munich, said that Islamism and anti-Semitism have no place in Germany.

"The rapid response of the emergency services in Munich may have prevented something terrible from happening today, and I am very grateful to them," Scholz wrote on his X page, adding: "I say it clearly: Islamism and anti-Semitism have no place here."

Earlier, Munich police said they considered the shooting near the Israeli Consulate General in Munich a terrorist attack against the Israeli diplomatic mission.

The Munich Criminal Police has taken over further investigations under the supervision of the Bavarian capital's public prosecutor's office and the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism.

The incident involved a person shooting at law enforcement officers, and he later died after being shot and wounded by police.
