The Israeli aggression on Gaza continues for the 339th day, and the occupation army continues to launch violent raids on the Gazans, which has led to the martyrdom of dozens, coinciding with the start of the school year, in which students in the Gaza Strip find themselves deprived of the right to education.
The Palestinian News Agency "Wafa" said that the occupation army targeted, through air raids and artillery shelling, various areas in the Strip, which led to the death and injury of dozens of people, including children. "Wafa" said that "seven citizens were killed and others were injured at dawn on Monday, in an occupation shelling that targeted two houses in the Bureij and Nuseirat camps in the central Gaza Strip."
Medical sources also reported to WAFA that "3 citizens were killed and 7 others were injured in an Israeli bombardment that targeted a house east of the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip."
Wafa quoted local sources as saying that the occupation forces' aircraft "bombed the home of the Hijab family and the Aw Huwaishel family in Al-Bureij camp and Al-Da'wa Street in Al-Nuseirat, which led to the martyrdom of 7 citizens and the injury of others, who were transferred to Al-Awda Hospital."
Other raids targeted a house on Al-Da'wa Street, north of the camp, completely destroying the house.
Earlier on Sunday evening, a child was killed and a number of citizens were injured as a result of artillery shelling that targeted a house in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood east of Gaza City. Ambulance teams transferred the child martyr and the injured to the Baptist Hospital in Gaza, according to WAFA.
The Palestinian Red Crescent stated that relief and rescue efforts were complicated by the difficulty of communicating with emergency operations rooms in Gaza as a result of the damage to communications networks caused by the ongoing Israeli attacks.
In a related context, the Indonesian and Kamal Adwan hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip warned today, Monday, that they would go out of service due to the depletion of the fuel needed to operate their departments, in light of the ongoing Israeli siege and bombardment and the prevention of fuel entry.
The director of the Indonesian hospital, Marwan Sultan, said that “the intensive care unit has reached its maximum capacity and is filled with critical cases, in addition to the presence of 10 patients who depend on ventilators,” while he attributed the large numbers of patients and injured to “the ongoing Israeli bombing and targeting of the northern Gaza Strip” in light of the ongoing devastating war for 11 months.
In turn, Kamal Adwan Hospital warned that it would be out of service within 48 hours due to the depletion of fuel and medical supplies, saying: “This poses a major threat to the lives of many patients and injured people receiving treatment at the hospital.”
It is worth noting that these warnings come amid a severe crisis experienced by health facilities in the Gaza Strip as a result of the ongoing destructive war, the tight siege on the northern Gaza Strip, and Israel’s refusal to allow the entry of fuel, medicines, and medical supplies.
The occupation penetrates north of Nuseirat
On the other hand, Israeli occupation army vehicles and tanks penetrated, today, Monday, in a limited manner northeast of the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip, while its aircraft launched raids on a mosque, homes and lands, resulting in the martyrdom of 11 Palestinians and the injury of others.
Eyewitnesses said that "active movement of occupation vehicles north of the central governorate was observed, in conjunction with heavy gunfire and artillery shelling." They added that this was followed by "a limited incursion of Israeli vehicles and tanks on Salah al-Din Street near the entrance to the power station northeast of al-Nuseirat camp, amidst heavy gunfire towards citizens' homes and lands, in conjunction with heavy artillery shelling."
According to eyewitnesses, "Israeli helicopters fired heavily at the northern areas of the Nuseirat and Bureij camps, with artillery shells being fired from time to time."
In Gaza City, Israeli warplanes destroyed the "Saeed Siam Mosque" in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood (north), causing injuries to a number of Palestinians living nearby, according to a medical source.
In the southern Gaza Strip, a Palestinian woman was killed and others were wounded as a result of Israeli artillery shelling in the Al-Farahin area east of Khan Yunis, according to medical sources and eyewitnesses.
The Israeli occupation army continues to destroy buildings and residential areas in Rafah and the Zeitoun neighborhood, as part of ongoing ground military operations.
New school year without education
The new school year began this Monday morning in schools in the West Bank and Jerusalem, but not in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a devastating Israeli war for 11 months.
The Palestinian Ministry of Education said in a statement that "2,459 public, private and UNRWA schools opened their doors to more than 806,360 male and female students, who are being educated by 51,447 male and female teachers."
She pointed out that "the school year in the Gaza Strip is still suspended due to the ongoing Israeli war of extermination since October 7, 2023," adding that "more than 10,000 students were martyred in the Gaza Strip and 15,000 were injured as a result of the Israeli war, while 19,000 students left the Strip."
She explained that "400 teachers were martyred in Gaza, and 90% of school buildings were damaged." The ministry said that 39,000 students in Gaza were prevented from taking the high school exam, and 58,000 children were deprived of the joy of joining the first grade.
2.2 million people in need of aid
The World Food Programme said on Monday that 2.2 million people in Gaza are still in dire need of aid after 11 months of war, stressing that Israeli evacuation orders are hampering its efforts to provide aid to the people of the Strip.
In a post on the X platform, the program said: “11 months into the war in Gaza, 2.2 million people are still in dire need of food and livelihood assistance,” stressing that “despite the World Food Program’s commitment to providing assistance, evacuation orders are hampering efforts at a time when needs are increasing.”
The United Nations World Food Programme concluded by stressing the need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
On the evening of August 27, an Israeli bombardment targeted a World Food Programme vehicle, which was opened fire on, prompting the programme to suspend its activities in Gaza the following day “until further notice.”
The essential services collapse and the right to education is denied.
