Bloomberg reported two new developments that highlight a challenge facing Kyiv's NATO allies and the growing risks of direct confrontation with Moscow as the military operation enters its third winter.
The agency quoted sources as saying that "Iran sent ballistic missiles to Russia, at a time when the Kremlin is waging an intensive bombing campaign aimed at destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure."
Meanwhile, two NATO countries (Romania and Latvia) reported incidents over the weekend involving Russian drones, while NATO opposes any direct conflict with Russia, fearing an escalation that could develop into a nuclear conflict.
The agency noted that "if Russian drones continue to violate NATO airspace, the alliance must show that it is able to reliably defend itself."
"The ongoing bombing of Ukrainian cities and new incidents with drones over NATO territory could tip the argument over the use of Western weapons in strikes on Russian territory in Kyiv's favor," she added.
It is noteworthy that yesterday, Friday, Zelensky called on the allies at the Ramstein base meeting to ignore Russia's red lines and lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons.
Earlier, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, admitted that the European Union is "part of the conflict" in Ukraine .
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously warned of the danger of NATO's statements about the possibility of launching long-range precision strikes against Russia, stressing that this requires space reconnaissance means and technical intelligence information, which means NATO's direct involvement in these operations.
Very unexpected.
