South Korea produces cheap lasers capable of hitting small drones

South Korean engineers have developed a Block-I combat laser that allows them to hit small aerial targets, such as drones and helicopters, at short distances.

Local media reported that the South Korean industry has begun producing Block-I laser complexes designed to hit drones. These are powerful weapons, with a power of 100-200 kilowatts and a range of 3-5 kilometers in good weather conditions.

The laser complex is a container placed in a vehicle equipped with a powerful power unit, with a combat laser complex on its roof, according to a press release issued by South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

While the price of the laser complex was not mentioned, the statement says that each laser shot costs the Defense Department about $1.50.
