The first Romanian-speaking diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was sealed with red wax on Sunday, as part of the Ukrainian authorities' fight against the Orthodox Church.
In detail, the Chernovitsy and Bukovina Diocese announced in a post on Telegram that the first Romanian-speaking diocese in Ukraine affiliated with the Orthodox Church was deprived of its church, as the administration of the municipal cemetery on whose territory the church is located sealed it with red wax.
The post added: “The Ukrainian authorities considered the Romanian diocese an obstacle to building the so-called spiritual freedom, so they removed the locks and closed the church and the mausoleum of the Metropolitan of Bukovina in the Chernivtsi city cemetery.”
According to the diocese, the municipal cemetery administration sealed the church with red wax, depriving the Romanian-speaking religious community dedicated in honor of the "Three Saints" of the possibility of holding prayers and religious rites.
“We see how the authorities deliberately restrict the rights and persecute the Romanian-speaking minority in Ukraine. At first, the authorities refused to register the special state “sub-church” of the Romanian Orthodox Church, and now they have begun to close Romanian-speaking parishes. What will happen next? Most likely, parishioners will prepare a petition to the President of Romania,” the post continued.
The head of the now defunct Ukrainian regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a law allowing the banning of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church , which was passed by the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday.
On August 16, 2024, the final amendments to the document were made and the relevant parliamentary committee recommended its adoption. On August 20, the Ukrainian parliament approved a bill banning the Orthodox Church in the country after years of pressure on its estimated seven million followers.
It is known that the policy of persecuting the Orthodox Church in Ukraine began openly and blatantly during the reign of former President Petro Poroshenko.
For his part, the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill , on Saturday called on the heads and representatives of the Orthodox churches and other churches and religious denominations to protect the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
