Libya: Tajoura clashes death toll rises to 5, 16 injured

Five people were killed and 16 others were injured, including a civilian, in clashes that broke out on Friday between two armed groups in Tajoura, Libya.

A cautious calm currently prevails in the area, after the morning hours witnessed violent clashes between the "Rahbat Al-Duru'" and "Al-Shaheeda Sabria" brigades.

In a new update, the media office of the "Rahbat Al-Duru" battalion announced that the battalion commander, Bashir Khalaf Allah, known by the nickname "Al-Baqara", has left intensive care and is in good condition.

The clashes erupted after an assassination attempt on Bashir Khalaf Allah, who was targeted by an armed group affiliated with the "Martyr Sabria" Battalion, which resulted in him being seriously injured.

The "Rahbat Al-Duru'" battalion responded by opening fire on the "Martyr Sabria" battalion and taking control of its headquarters in the Al-Hamidiyah area, and capturing 12 of its members during the clashes.

The security situation in the area remains tense, while a state of panic has spread among citizens who are demanding the opening of safe corridors to exit the areas of clashes.

Videos have been circulating on social media showing members of the "Rahbat Al-Duru'" Battalion announcing their control over the headquarters of the "Martyr Sabria" Battalion, with columns of smoke seen rising from the site.

It is noteworthy that the region witnessed similar clashes in mid-July, which resulted in civilian casualties and material losses.
