The judicial authorities in the French capital, Paris, announced the arrest of an Egyptian Olympic wrestler, early Friday morning, on charges of sexually assaulting a woman.
The French newspaper "Le Parisien" revealed that the Egyptian wrestler sexually assaulted a woman in a café, after touching her buttocks.
According to the prosecutor's office, the arrest took place at around 5 p.m. local time at the Oz cafe, where French authorities found the accused Egyptian wrestler in a state of complete intoxication at the time of his arrest.
It was later revealed that he was the wrestler Mohamed El-Sayed, 26 years old, who won the bronze medal in 2021 in Greco-Roman wrestling under the weight (67 kg), and who was eliminated from the round of 16 of the Paris Games last Wednesday against Azerbaijani wrestler Hasrat Jafarov.
The British newspaper, The Sun, explained that the attack took place near the Seine River, specifically on the Austerlitz Quay in the 13th district of the city, after the victim of the attack filed an urgent complaint against the wrestler who had already participated in the Olympics.
A spokesman for the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed in a brief statement to the newspaper that an investigation will be opened into the sexual assault case, without providing further details.
It is worth noting that this is not the first sexual assault to be reported at the Paris Olympics, which began on July 26 and ends next Sunday, as the father of Croatian judo champion Barbara Matic was arrested for kissing a volunteer without her consent immediately after his daughter won the gold medal.
