Bangladesh Post reported that two Rohingyas who were carrying a large amount of gold from Myanmar were arrested by border guards in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh on August 11.
Bangladesh Border Guards in Cox's Bazar District, During a search in Teknaf near the Burmese border, a refugee from Balukhali refugee camp and a villager from Surija village in Maungdaw Township were arrested along with 29 kilos of various gold items, the report said.
According to a Bangladesh Border Guard official, the seized gold could be worth up to 28 crore Bangladeshi Taka (2 million US dollars) at current market prices.
These Rohingyas are hand-carrying gold goods from Myanmar and continue to export them to India through Chittagong, the news reported citing intelligence sources.
In June last year, Bangladeshi police arrested four people who were carrying 9 and a half kilos of gold items on a bus going from Coxsack Bazar to Chittagong.
