"Wife Swapping" Case Sparks Controversy in Libya, 3-Year Prison Sentence and Fine

The Libyan Attorney General's Office announced the imprisonment of the manager of an account on a social media platform for three years and a fine of ten thousand dinars, for promoting the ideas of so-called "wife swapping."

The office explained in a press statement that the Internal Security Service officers were able to reach the manager of the account in question, who was publishing content that incites practices that are inconsistent with social and religious values ​​and traditions in Libya.

The case concluded with his trial before the Bab Bin Ghashir Misdemeanour and Violation Court, which issued a verdict sentencing him to three years in prison and a fine of ten thousand dinars.

This case comes within the context of efforts to preserve moral and social values ​​in Libyan society, and as an affirmation of the authorities’ commitment to combating phenomena that threaten the country’s moral and legal system.
