White House: Claims Biden may withdraw from election are false

The White House said on Wednesday that there is no truth to what was reported by American media outlets regarding a statement by President Joe Biden in which he said that he is considering withdrawing from the election race next November.

“Biden knows he has to rush to reassure the public that he’s still up to the task,” the New York Times quoted an unnamed “key ally” as saying, adding that Biden “knows that if two more of these things happen (two debates with the same poor performance), we’ll be in a different position.”

White House spokesman Andrew Bates denied the report, saying in a post on Twitter: "This claim is completely untrue."

The debate between Biden and Trump sparked widespread controversy in the United States, and caused Democrats to be upset due to the US president's weak appearance, his stammering speech, and his inability to finish his sentences. Some Democratic lawmakers called for him to step down and nominate a replacement for him in the upcoming presidential elections in November.
