UEFA's first decision after Spain duo celebrate European Cup win by chanting "Gibraltar is Spanish"

UEFA has opened an investigation into Spain captain Alvaro Morata and teammate Rodri over a song linked to Gibraltar during the "Matador" celebration of Euro 2024.

UEFA said in a statement on Saturday that it had "appointed a disciplinary inspector to assess the potential breach" of its rules by Morata and Rudy.

UEFA has not set a timetable for a potential case that could see players suspended from the UEFA Nations League in September.

Morata and Rodri, the best player at Euro 2024, led thousands of fans singing "Gibraltar is Spanish" during a celebration in Madrid on Monday after Spain beat England 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final.

The Gibraltar Football Association has lodged a formal complaint with UEFA in this regard.

It is noteworthy that Britain has controlled the Strait of Gibraltar, located at the southern tip of Spain, for more than 300 years, while Spain claims it.
