Many people suffer from the problem of high temperatures in the summer, and extreme heat particularly affects patients with high blood pressure. What are the means of avoiding the effects of heat for this group?
Russian doctor Alexander Myasnikov says: “People with vascular diseases suffer from the summer heat, especially those with high blood pressure, but there are some simple measures that must be followed to reduce the effects of the heat for this category of patients.”
He added: "50% of patients with high blood pressure take medications that have a diuretic effect, and in hot weather the risk of dehydration in the body increases, so the first rule is to make sure to consume sufficient amounts of water and fluids."
The doctor noted that drinking excessive amounts of fluids may put an additional burden on the vessels and cause high blood pressure, so fluids should be consumed in the required quantities when feeling thirsty.
The doctor warned that some people suffer from fluid retention problems in the feet and high blood pressure problems during hot periods, so they should avoid standing up suddenly and moving quickly.
