The Lebanese army announced in a statement on Wednesday evening that it had thwarted attempts by about 2,200 Syrians to illegally cross the Lebanese-Syrian border.
He added in the statement that as a result of the security measures taken by army units in various Lebanese regions during the month of June 2024, 588 people of different nationalities were arrested for their involvement in various crimes and misdemeanors, including drug trafficking, theft, smuggling, possession of weapons and contraband, roaming within Lebanese territory without legal residency, and driving cars and motorcycles without legal papers.
He stated in his statement that he had seized 75 weapons of various types, 21 hand grenades, 17 RPG launchers, quantities of light and medium ammunition, a number of vehicles and motorcycles, in addition to a quantity of drugs, a number of communication devices and surveillance cameras.
He confirmed that the detainees and the seized items were handed over to the competent authorities to take the necessary action.
