Dr. Mikhail Lebedev stated that skin diseases, inflammation of the lips, hair loss, as well as inflammation of the eyes and the appearance of ulcers on the mucous membrane of the eyes may indicate a deficiency of vitamin B2 in the body.
“Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) deficiency is a fairly rare phenomenon, but it occurs in patients with endocrine diseases. The following symptoms can be observed: skin lesions, the formation of crusts on the lips (cheilitis), hair loss, ulcers on the mucous membrane of the eyes. People who have given up animal products are in the risk group,” he told Gazeta.Ru.
According to him, when this vitamin is lacking in the body for a long period, numbness in the extremities, muscle weakness, severe muscle pain, cramps, and a decrease in red blood cells develop.
The doctor points out that vitamin B2 contributes to the production of enzymes involved in the synthesis of pyridoxine, acid reactions, the formation of red blood cells, immunoglobulins (antibodies), participates in the splitting of fats and the conversion of nutrients into energy, and protects the skin, eyes and nervous system from damage.
According to him, the sources of vitamin B2 are cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, mushrooms, milk and liquid dairy products, fish, poultry, red meat, beef liver, buckwheat, rice, white cabbage, and yeast.
