Sudan Al-Burhan receives the credentials of the Iranian ambassador after 8 years of estrangement

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received the credentials of Hassan Shah Husseini as his country's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Sudan.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry Undersecretary said in a press statement that the Iranian ambassador presented his credentials to the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council on Sunday, and that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council welcomed the new ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs stressed the strength of relations between Sudan and Iran, noting that the ambassador's presentation of his credentials heralds the beginning of a new phase in the path of bilateral relations between the two countries.

For his part, Iranian Ambassador Hassan Shah Hosseini stated that presenting his credentials comes within the framework of the two countries’ agreement to exchange ambassadors and promote bilateral relations.

He stressed that he would do his utmost to enhance cooperation relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Sudan.

He stressed in his statements that Tehran supports the national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Sudan.

In October 2023, Sudan announced an agreement to resume diplomatic relations with Iran after a number of high-level contacts between the two countries and taking the necessary measures to open their embassies and exchange official delegations to discuss developing cooperation between them.
