Scientifically confirmed “the best way” to enhance your brain power

A specialized neuroscientist from New York University revealed that daily cycling or brisk walking is a sure way to enhance brain power.

Physical activity is best for brain health, says Dr. Wendy Suzuki.

Exercise is crucial for brain health because it improves blood flow to the organ and increases the size of the hippocampus, an important area for forming and storing memories and learning new things.

It may contribute to the creation of new brain cells in the hippocampus and prevent brain atrophy (a hallmark of dementia).

Sports also increase synapses in the prefrontal cortex, the area where information is processed and contextualized, enhancing our ability to make decisions, think, and express ourselves.

Suzuki recommends exercising 3 to 4 times a week for about 30 minutes to increase your heart rate.

She also recommended people get about 8 hours of sleep each night, manage stress and anxiety through breathing exercises and meditation, maintain strong social connections, and eat a healthy diet rich in omega fatty acids and proteins.

It is worth noting that a study conducted in 2017 revealed a link between low physical activity and an increased risk of dementia.

Another study, published in the journal Neurology, found that people who engaged in regular vigorous exercise had a 35% lower risk of developing dementia.

A separate analysis of 38 international studies, also published in the journal Neurology, found that people who participated in activities such as walking, running, dancing or swimming regularly had a 17% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
