It is voting day this Monday in Rwanda for presidential and legislative elections, the polling stations opened at 7 a.m. local time.
President Paul Kagame, in power for 24 years, is seeking a fourth consecutive five-year term at the head of the country.
The RPF candidate who has led Rwanda since the end of the 1994 genocide has sounded the mobilization throughout the country during an American-style campaign - still as adulated by thousands of supporters, like a hero who embodies peace and development for them - facing adversaries who are very far from worrying him. The two candidates authorized to face the president during this double election are struggling to gather as much support.
In 2017, Paul Kagame obtained a score of over 98% while the independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana received barely more than 0.7% of the votes and the Democratic Green Party MP Frank Habineza did not even pass the 0.5% mark during the last presidential elections.
Both felt they had campaigned in good conditions.
