Places Your Kids Might Hide E-Cigarettes

A team of experts has issued a warning to parents that children and teenagers can hide e-cigarettes thanks to some hacks and tricks on websites.

Many concerned parents may wonder if their children are secretly vaping without their consent.

Experts say there are "hidden tricks" that teens often share online to help their peers hide e-cigarettes and avoid confiscation.

A popular online e-cigarette store has revealed where teens are most likely to hide e-cigarettes. It said most teens hide small items inside unused clothing, including inside hooded pockets, wrapped in sweaters or buried between socks.

Some videos often suggest sticking small items on the inside of the wall art frame, while hiding the e-cigarette in the pillowcase.

Experts also revealed that some tricks suggest hiding e-cigarettes by sticking them to the underside of a drawer, where there is often dead space, as well as under bedroom mattresses or bed frames.

Some social media pages often suggest hiding them inside stuffed toys.

Experts also say teens tend to keep their e-cigarettes inside their eyeglass case or jewelry box.

Other locations included: plant pots or sticking e-cigarettes behind or on bedroom furniture, such as ceiling fans or lights or behind a wall-mounted TV.

How to talk to your child about vaping?

Despite the potentially harmful nature of e-cigarettes, it is advisable to exercise caution when dealing with your children about this topic.

Experts have issued advice on how to talk to your child about vaping, saying: “It is a good idea to talk about any concerns you have in an accepting way. Avoid confronting them angrily, invading their privacy and demanding that they stop using e-cigarettes, especially in ways that may make them feel threatened or punished. These approaches are unlikely to work and may make your child mistrust or fear you.”

“If your child is determined to vape, there is no surefire way to stop them,” they added. “However, what you can do is create a supportive environment that promotes communication, awareness, and good decision-making. With these things in mind, you are more likely to get to the root cause of your child’s vaping, and give them the tools to live a healthier life.”
