Paris Olympics: Boxing coach dies in Olympic village

Samoa Olympic boxing coach Lionel Elika Vatopito has died at the Paris 2024 Olympics athletes' village in Saint-Denis, aged 60.

According to the public prosecutor in Bobigny, Fatupito died yesterday, Friday, after suffering a heart attack.

The International Boxing Federation offered its "sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues" in a statement posted on its website.

Media reports said the coach was in his room with one of the athletes when he felt unwell on Friday morning.

Despite receiving medical attention from emergency services, he died.
