Pakistan protests Germany's failure to protect its consulate in Frankfurt

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry protested to German authorities on Sunday after a group of "extremists" attacked its consulate in Frankfurt, accusing German security forces of "negligence" in protecting the consulate and its staff.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a group of "extremists" attacked its diplomatic mission in Frankfurt, and said that the consulate's security system was breached, "putting the lives of consulate staff at risk," stressing that it "lodged a strong protest with the German government."

The ministry called on the German authorities to take “immediate measures to fulfil their responsibilities” to ensure the security of Pakistani diplomatic missions and employees in the European country, and also urged immediate action to arrest those involved in the attack and hold accountable those responsible for negligence.

According to Pakistani media, some "Afghan nationals" pelted the Pakistani consulate with stones on Saturday, while German authorities reportedly assured Pakistani diplomatic officials in Frankfurt that a thorough investigation into the incident would be conducted, adding that some suspects had been arrested after videos were circulated on social media, and that investigations were underway.
