Omani police announced that at least four people were killed and others were injured, on Monday night-Tuesday, in a shooting incident near a mosque in the capital, Muscat.
The police said in a brief statement that they "dealt with a shooting incident in the vicinity of a mosque in the Wadi Al-Kabir area, which resulted in the death of four people and the injury of several others, according to initial information."
The police stated in its statement that "all security measures and procedures were taken to deal with the situation, and the procedures for collecting evidence and investigation are being completed."
The US Embassy in Muscat issued a security alert following the shooting, announcing the cancellation of all visa appointments for Tuesday.
"US citizens should exercise caution, follow local news, and comply with instructions from local authorities," the embassy wrote on its Twitter account.
