Saudi Arabia will host the first edition of the eOlympics in 2025, the International Olympic Committee officially announced on Friday.
“The International Olympic Committee today announced its partnership with the Saudi National Olympic Committee to host the inaugural 2025 eOlympics in Saudi Arabia,” the International Olympic Committee said in a statement.
"The partnership between the International Olympic Committee and the Saudi National Olympic Committee will last for 12 years, with the eSports Olympic Games being held regularly," she added.
For his part, the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, said: “The International Olympic Committee’s announcement that Saudi Arabia will host this global sporting event is an extension and embodiment of the unprecedented support that sports in Saudi Arabia enjoy from the leadership of this great nation, and the continuous support and follow-up from the Crown Prince, Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, which has enabled us to move forward in continuing to host such major international events.”
The Saudi minister stressed that obtaining the honor of hosting the 2025 e-Olympics "confirms that Saudi Arabia has become a home for sports witnessed by the entire world."
