New York Times: Biden Considers Withdrawing from Presidential Race

The New York Times reported that US President Joe Biden realizes that he is in a difficult position after the "failed confrontation" with his opponent Donald Trump and is considering whether to continue in the presidential race.

A Biden supporter told the newspaper that Biden told him he was "considering whether to continue in the presidential race."

“Biden’s talk is the first indication that he is seriously considering whether he can recover from his disastrous debate performance , and knows he may not be able to sustain his candidacy if he does not convince the public in the coming days that he is fit for office,” the unnamed source said.

The source said the US president is aware that his upcoming appearances, including a planned interview with ABC on Friday, "must go well for him to have a chance of regaining voter support."

The American media agreed that Biden's performance was weak in  the first debate  with his predecessor, Donald Trump, which took place on Friday night in Atlanta.  The current American president stuttered and stopped, and most of the time he could not formulate his thoughts clearly .

Press reports indicate that  the Democrats may abandon Biden as a presidential candidate and replace him with another candidate .

In theory, the party will have that option at its convention next August, but in practice it will be difficult to remove Biden, who won the primary, from the race unless he drops out himself.

However, the current president's staff insists that he has no intention of giving up and dropping out of the race.

The second debate between Biden and Trump is scheduled for September 10, and the US presidential election will be held on November 5.
