Meta's Oversight Board said on Thursday that the company failed to remove an artificially generated intimate image of an Indian public figure, which remained up until the board intervened.
The semi-independent board said the social media giant's policies on deepfake images need updating and that the wording of those policies is not clear enough.
Scandalous fake images of women and celebrities, including Taylor Swift, have been circulating on social media as the technology used to create them has become more available and accessible.
Meta, for its part, confirmed that it welcomes the Oversight Board's recommendations and will conduct reviews.
