An American newspaper revealed, quoting two informed sources, that President Joe Biden intends to announce plans to reform the Supreme Court on Monday, adding that some of those proposed amendments include limiting the judicial immunity granted to American presidents.
According to the American newspaper Politico, Biden is expected to seek a constitutional amendment to limit the immunity of presidents and some other office holders, following the Supreme Court’s ruling in July that presidents enjoy broad immunity from prosecution.
The sources quoted by the newspaper suggested that the US president would adopt term limits for Supreme Court justices and impose a code of professional conduct, in what Politico described as "a remarkable radical shift for a president who has long resisted calls for reform of the Supreme Court."
The newspaper noted that the details of the proposals are not yet clear, and that the sources who spoke to Politico on condition of anonymity confirmed that they may change in the future, adding that Biden will announce this in Texas on Monday, and changes may occur to those specific proposals.
Biden said last week during a speech in the Oval Office at the White House that he would call for reform of the court.
