The Libyan Intelligence Service responded to the accusations circulating on social media pages and the statement of the Attorney General's Office regarding the attempted assassination of the advisor to the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Majeed Mlegta.
The agency strongly denied in a statement on Wednesday its involvement in the case or any illegal activities.
He stressed in a statement that his primary role is to protect the homeland, citizens and state institutions, and to uncover terrorist operations and sabotage plans in cooperation with the Libyan National Security Agency.
The agency confirmed that it had not employed anyone with official contracts since its establishment in 2011, and that the defendants in the Mlegta assassination case belong to the Western Region and are not affiliated with the agency.
He added that the agency is not subject to any personal or external pressures in carrying out its duties and that all its work is carried out in full coordination with the Attorney General's Office, where investigations are being conducted to bring those involved to justice.
At the end of the statement, the agency renewed its commitment to protecting the national security of Libya and its citizens, warning that the coming days will be difficult for the enemies of the homeland.
