Doctors point out that there are three important health indicators that are easy for a person to monitor themselves, especially since current devices allow for the determination of some laboratory indicators at home.
According to doctors, these three indicators are:
- Blood pressure level: Every home should currently have a device to measure blood pressure level, and the person should measure blood pressure level even when there are no symptoms that require this because blood pressure level sometimes changes without symptoms.
“If your blood pressure is higher than 130/80 mmHg, it is actually high blood pressure,” says cardiologist German Gandelman. “High blood pressure damages blood vessels and can cause holes in them, which can lead to myocardial infarction, stroke, atherosclerosis, and more.”
- Cholesterol, current devices allow you to measure your cholesterol level at home. The normal level of cholesterol in the blood should not exceed 5.1 mmol per liter.
The specialist says: “The high level of cholesterol in the blood leads to the accumulation of fats in the blood vessels, causing them to become completely blocked. The most dangerous thing is the development of the risk of myocardial infarction when the vessel becomes blocked.”
- Sugar: Blood sugar levels should not exceed 6.1 mmol/L. High blood sugar levels above this level can cause health problems throughout the body - from head to toe.
“First, high blood sugar destroys the capillaries, then the main vessels, retinal hemorrhage occurs, and diabetic retinal degeneration develops. All this is caused by type 1 and type 2 diabetes,” says ophthalmologist Mikhail Konovalov.
For his part, Gandelman adds, high blood sugar levels lead to amputation of limbs due to blood vessel problems and kidney failure.
It is crucial for preventing serious health issues like heart attack, stroke, and diabetes complications.
