US Vice President Kamala Harris said on Monday that she has 105 days to win the election, announcing that she will head to the campaign headquarters in Delaware "to greet her staff."
This came in Harris' first public comments since US President Joe Biden abruptly announced his withdrawal from the presidential race over the weekend and endorsed his vice president to lead the 2024 election campaign.
“President Biden fights every day for the American people and we are deeply grateful for his service to our nation,” Harris said in remarks at the White House as she hosted an event to celebrate the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s championship teams.
“We have 105 days to win the election, and I will be heading to campaign headquarters in Delaware to greet our staff,” she added, noting that “Biden’s legacy of accomplishments over the past three years is unparalleled in modern history,” stressing that “in one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who have served two terms in office.”
Harris' office announced that she will hold a previously undisclosed campaign event in Biden's hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, later in the afternoon. It is unclear whether Biden, who is recovering from COVID-19, will attend.
The US Vice President pledged, on Sunday evening, to win the Democratic Party's nomination for the upcoming presidential elections and defeat Republican candidate Donald Trump in the elections on November 5.
On Sunday, US President Joe Biden announced in a statement his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election race, and expressed his "full" support and endorsement for his vice president, Harris, to replace him as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.
