In a call with Zelensky, Trump promises to end the war in Ukraine if he wins the presidency

Former US President Donald Trump, during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed his strong confidence in being able to end the Russian-Ukrainian war if he wins the upcoming presidential election.

Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday that he had a "very good" call with Zelensky and that he would end the war in Ukraine before he even takes office in January, if he wins the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump noted that the war "would not have broken out" if he were in power in 2022, stressing that he "would bring peace to the world and end the war that has caused the loss of so many lives."

In turn, Zelensky said in a post on the X platform that during the phone call he expressed his gratitude for the US military assistance, congratulated Trump on the Republican Party's nomination for the presidential election, and denounced the assassination attempt on him last week.

Earlier this week, Republican vice presidential candidate James David Vance said he wanted to cut off U.S. military support to Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Trump also previously expressed his opposition to the latest aid package provided by Congress to Ukraine, after it was approved last April.
