Russian physician Sergey Agapkin said that balancing the amounts of fatty acids we get from food helps prolong life and enhances heart function.
During a program on the "Russia" TV channel, the doctor said: "Eating some types of vegetable oils in large quantities can negatively affect heart health, so we must choose oils rich in beneficial substances and containing lower levels of saturated fatty acids that may cause hardening of the arteries."
He added: "Eating large amounts of sunflower oil with food may lead to an increase in the concentration of omega-6 acids in the body, and this may disrupt the concentration of beneficial omega-3 acids, so I recommend mixing one amount of sunflower oil with two amounts of flaxseed oil and adding the mixture to food, as flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3 acids."
The doctor pointed out that the omega-3 acids found in flax seeds help fight inflammation in the body, unlike the omega-6 acids, the abundance of which increases the inflammatory processes that cause aging, heart disease, and blood vessel disease. Therefore, the balance of fatty acids is considered important for maintaining overall health.
Russian physician and immunologist, Andrei Brodius, had previously indicated that eating sunflower seeds in moderate quantities is beneficial to health, as they contain vitamin B1, which is necessary for nerve health, and they are also considered an important source of vitamin E, which is necessary for eye health.
