District Police Chief Ziauddin told Independent that according to preliminary details, the blast was carried out by a vehicle full of explosives, which broke the windows of houses and shops.
According to the police of Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a powerful explosion took place on Monday in the cantonment limits, in which several people were injured while several shops and houses were also damaged.
After this explosion, the police have surrounded the area and the operation is going on.
District Police Chief of Bannu Police Ziauddin told Independent NEWS's Izharullah that according to preliminary details, the explosion was carried out by a car full of explosives, which broke the windows of houses and shops.
He said 'some people have been injured due to the glass breaking and the operation is still going on.'
The blast took place in Bannu Kent, but there was no immediate word on its target.
There have been attacks on security forces in Bannu in the past as well. In August 2023, at least nine personnel were killed and several others injured in a suicide attack on a convoy of security forces.
Militant attacks in Pakistan have increased in recent months, with most of them targeting security forces personnel.
Pakistani government officials have said in several statements in recent months that the TTP, based in neighboring Afghanistan, is involved in terrorist attacks in the country.
In March of this year, Pakistan's Federal Minister of Defense Khawaja Asif said in a statement that most of the terrorism in the country is taking place from the Afghan soil, which "have safe havens here too."
But Afghan government officials have been saying that they will not allow their territory to be used against any other country, and Pakistan has been assured of cooperation.
The United Nations sanctions monitoring team said in a report this month that the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has become the 'largest terrorist group' in Afghanistan, which has crossed the border into Pakistan. It has the support of Taliban rulers to carry out attacks.
"The TTP operates extensively in Afghanistan and from there carries out terrorist activities in Pakistan, for which it often uses Afghans," the report said.
According to the report, it is estimated that there are 6,000 to 6,500 fighters of this internationally designated extremist group, also known as the Pakistani Taliban, in Afghanistan.
The UN document said that the Afghan Taliban's support for the TTP has also increased.
TTP's growing activities have strained relations between Islamabad and Kabul.
