US Vice President and potential Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris launched an attack on former Republican President Donald Trump on Tuesday during a speech to supporters in the swing state of Wisconsin at the start of her campaign.
Harris, who has broad support within the Democratic Party after current President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the electoral race, said that Trump "wants to take our country back," stressing that she will make efforts in the coming weeks "to unite the ranks of Democrats to win (the scheduled elections) in November."
This comes after statements by the two main leaders of the Democratic Party in Congress, in which they confirmed that they support Harris as their party's candidate for the presidential elections.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries ended days of questions about whether they would join a growing number of Democrats in backing Harris' bid for the party's nomination.
Biden abandoned his re-election bid on Sunday amid concerns that he was no longer physically or mentally fit to run what is expected to be a tough race against Trump.
