Hamas denies plans to hold bilateral meeting with Fatah in Beijing

Head of the Foreign Relations Department of Hamas, Basem Naim, denied that the movement had any plans to hold a bilateral meeting with Fatah in Beijing.

"Preparations are underway for a meeting of Palestinian factions in Beijing later this month. Information about a separate bilateral meeting between Fatah and Hamas in Beijing is incorrect," Naim said.

Earlier, leaders of Hamas and Fatah announced that Palestinian factions, including the two movements, will hold national unity talks in China this July in an attempt to resolve deep divisions.

The two movements met in China in April 2024  to discuss reconciliation efforts and end political divisions that have been ongoing for about 17 years.

The New York Times reported that with Israel and Hamas apparently making progress in reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, discussions about plans for the future of the Strip have gained greater importance.

For his part, Fatah Central Committee member Azzam Al-Ahmad stated that the movement will send three officials, including Mahmoud Al-Aloul, the movement’s deputy chairman.

The newspaper reported that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet with the Palestinian factions on July 21 and again on July 23, noting that the two movements will meet separately.
