French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera took a dip in the River Seine in Paris on Saturday, less than two weeks before the start of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
Odea Castera swam between the Pont Alexandre III and the Invalides complex, completing several laps.
The French minister's action came after promises made by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and French President Emmanuel Macron to also swim in the Seine River to demonstrate the quality of the water ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.
The sports minister's swim was a symbolic gesture to highlight the steps being taken to clean up the river, which has long been associated with pollution.
It is noteworthy that the organizers of the Paris Olympics have set a goal of making the 2024 Olympics the most sustainable in history.
