The Yemeni Houthi group announced, last Friday evening, that it had targeted a ship in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, with sea missiles and drones, for violating the ban it imposes on entry into Israeli ports.
"The group's naval forces, air force, and missile force carried out a joint military operation," the group's military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said in a televised statement.
He explained that the operation "targeted the (charysalis) ship twice; once in the Red Sea and the other in Bab al-Mandab, with a number of appropriate sea missiles and drones," adding that the targeting of the ship came as a result of "the violation of the company that owns it (he did not mention it) of the (group's) decision to ban entry to the ports of occupied Palestine."
Saree stressed that "the operations of the armed forces will not stop until the (Israeli) aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted."
Earlier today, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the destruction of 5 Houthi boats and 3 drones in the past 24 hours, considering that "the aforementioned boats and drones posed an imminent threat to the United States, coalition forces (Prosperity Guardian Coalition), and commercial ships in the region."
In "solidarity with Gaza", which is facing a devastating Israeli war with American support, the Houthis are targeting Israeli or Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean with missiles and drones.
Since January 12, 2024, a US-led coalition has been launching raids that it says target "Houthi sites" in various areas of Yemen, in response to their naval attacks, which have been met with a response from the group from time to time.
With the intervention of Washington and London and the escalation of tensions in January, the Houthi group announced that it now considers all American and British ships among its military targets.
