Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has denounced the way the US Congress has "shamelessly" celebrated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who "has the blood of Palestinians on his hands."
"We and the whole world saw how a murderer and genocidaire was applauded in the US Congress," Erdogan said in a speech during an introductory meeting on the high-tech promotion program at the Ataturk Cultural Center in Istanbul on Friday, referring to Netanyahu.
He added: "Imagine that the US Congress applauds killers who have taken the lives of nearly 40,000 children, women and elderly people," referring to the "war in the Gaza Strip."
He added: "Those who have been teaching the world lessons in democracy and human rights did not feel an ounce of shame while celebrating the 'Hitler of our time.'"
He continued: "We are facing a mental atrophy that is not satisfied with hosting a butcher whose hands are stained with the blood of 150,000 Palestinians in Gaza, but rather applauds his speech, which is full of illusions."
Erdogan pointed out that "the global order that was established to protect the economic, political, military and diplomatic interests of the victors of World War II has expired."
Netanyahu delivered a speech to the US Congress on Wednesday evening amid widespread protests by thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters in the streets of Washington demanding an end to the war.
