Egyptian expert: The expected lifespan of the High Dam exceeds 600 years

Egyptian water expert Abbas Sharaki confirmed that the High Dam is one of the greatest projects ever implemented, as it is considered among the top 10 projects in the twentieth century worldwide, as it serves humanity in a comprehensive manner.

Dr. Abbas Sharaky, Professor of Geology and Water Resources at Cairo University, explained during a television interview that “the lifespan of the High Dam was supposed to be 500 years, but after its development and modernization, its lifespan exceeded 600 years.”

He added that "the High Dam operates with high efficiency, whether during drought or flood years, as it helped regulate the flow of water continuously, unlike the Aswan Dam, which was limited in its storage capacity."

He pointed out that "85% of the Nile River water reaches Egypt from Ethiopia, while the remaining 15% comes from other tributaries, which means that the Nile water comes entirely from outside Egypt."

"The High Dam helped solve the flooding problem that Egypt was suffering from, as its storage capacity is 162 billion cubic meters, while the Aswan Dam's storage capacity did not exceed 5 billion cubic meters," Sharaqi said,
noting that "the High Dam is about 111 meters high, and that the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser ignored US instructions not to build the High Dam."

Sharaqi also warned that, “If it weren’t for the High Dam, Egypt would have drowned in every flood. Since the construction of the High Dam, we have not witnessed the drowning of any village.”
