Doctor: Spinach poses a health risk in certain cases

Russian nutritionist Dr. Anastasia Zaitseva announced that anyone suffering from joint diseases, diabetes and ulcers should exclude spinach from their diet.

In an interview with the Russian news agency Novosti, the expert points out that for allergy sufferers, children, and people suffering from joint diseases, diabetes, ulcers, kidney stones, or jaundice, limit the amount of spinach in their diet.

“This is due to the presence of oxalic acid in spinach, which may worsen the health condition. However, this product should not be completely abandoned, because adding it in small quantities, for example to a salad, does not pose any risk, but excessive consumption of it in any form worsens the health condition if the person suffers from any of the health problems mentioned above,” she says.

According to her, many nutritionists consider spinach to be the healthiest green vegetable, although it can cause allergies because it contains a high percentage of histamine, so it should be added with caution to the child's diet, and his body's reaction should be monitored.

Of course, spinach is a good source of vitamins, flavonoids and dietary fiber that the body needs. Spinach also contains organic fatty acids and rare linoleic acid, which is only found in some products.

The expert recommends soaking spinach in a solution of salt and a small amount of vinegar, before eating, to remove possible traces of insects, parasites and pathogenic plants.
