Endocrinologist and nutritionist Dr. Adelina Murtazina points out that in hot weather the body experiences additional stress due to the high temperature of the surrounding environment.
According to her, the body always tries to regulate its temperature at the required level, but nevertheless there are several reasons why a person feels sleepy in hot weather.
“Lack of energy and high body temperature require additional energy to cool the body. This can lead to fatigue and drowsiness. Also, in hot weather, the body loses more fluids through sweating, which can lead to dehydration. Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue and drowsiness,” she says.
In addition, regulating body temperature can lead to drowsiness, so the body tries to maintain an ideal temperature, and one way is to reduce activity to reduce heat production.
“In addition, there are changes in the circadian rhythm,” she says. “Heat can affect our circadian rhythm that regulates wakefulness and sleep, and changes in the environment can disrupt this rhythm and cause drowsiness.”
According to her, we must not forget the effect of ultraviolet rays, as exposure to these rays for a long time causes drowsiness.
The doctor points out that to combat the feeling of drowsiness in the heat, one should drink plenty of water (2-3 liters per day, regardless of lifestyle and physical activity), avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, and avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine because they increase dehydration, or reduce their consumption.
She recommends eating products with a high water content, such as red and yellow watermelon, cucumbers and tomatoes.
According to her, an imbalance in the body's saline solution leads to health risks because it plays an important role in the functioning of cells and organs, and any imbalance in it can lead to heart disorders, such as irregular heartbeats and even serious problems in it. As for magnesium deficiency, it causes muscle spasms, weakness and even loss of control.
In addition, the saline solution affects the transmission of nerve impulses, meaning that its imbalance can lead to problems in the nervous system, including mood swings, insomnia and even convulsions, and problems with the kidneys and other organs of the body. Therefore, it is always necessary to maintain the balance of the saline solution in the body, especially in cases of intense physical activity.
