Professor Stanislav Ionov from the Department of Therapy of the Medical Faculty of the Russian University of Education announced that people who sleep under air conditioning are more susceptible to diseases.
“People who sleep under air conditioners risk their health because they are more susceptible to diseases, because the regulation of human body temperature during the day is carried out by circadian rhythms of day and night. These rhythms are higher during the day due to muscle and mental stress. During sleep, the body temperature drops by about one degree. When the air conditioning temperature in the room is set to +15, +17, and even +19 degrees, the heat transfer process increases, which leads to an even greater decrease in body temperature. This decrease has unpleasant consequences, as a person wakes up in the morning with a cough and a runny nose,” he says.
He adds: “The ideal room temperature is 20-22 degrees, and it is necessary to set the air conditioners to that. By the way, the fan is considered safer in this respect because it does not lower the air temperature, but cools the body by generating air currents.”
The professor points out that another common mistake that causes colds is installing the air conditioner above or opposite the bed.
It is advisable not to make such a mistake because direct airflow, even if it is light, also increases heat transfer and can cause a drop in body temperature, and thus a cold, so it is better to install the air conditioner in the bedroom away from the bed, so that the person is not in the area of direct airflow.
