CNN reported that support is growing in the US Democratic Party for Vice President Kamala Harris as the most suitable candidate to replace President Joe Biden if he withdraws from the presidential race.
"No one knows exactly what the process of selecting a new nominee will look like if Joe Biden withdraws, but many Democrats say it is more likely than ever that Vice President Kamala Harris will be the nominee," the network's post said, citing dozens of party officials.
According to the network, "officials do not mean by this the possibility of a sudden decision by party members to unite against the White House president to support Harris, but rather it is a trend resulting from increasing fatigue with their uncertainty about his chances of winning the election race, which makes the trend shift towards consensus on the vice president as a candidate."
The network explained that Republican Party officials said that "if the situation changes suddenly, dreams are entrenched that Harris will come out more actively and forcefully against Donald Trump," stressing that none of the "serious" competitors are able to compete with her.
Earlier on Friday, The New York Times reported that Harris plans to hold talks with major Democratic donors in light of President Joe Biden's potential withdrawal from the presidential race.
Despite calls from many congressional Democrats and Democratic donors, Biden says he has no plans to drop out of the presidential race. At the same time, he suggests Harris is fully prepared to become president if he is unable to complete his full second term.
ABC News reported, citing a senior White House official, that Biden has ordered a public opinion poll on Harris' chances if she enters the presidential race instead of him .
The Wall Street Journal indicated that Harris is considered the most likely candidate to succeed Biden if he withdraws from the electoral race.
According to the results of the Economist/YouGov polls released on July 11, about 73% of Democratic Party supporters believe that Harris should be the Democratic nominee in the presidential election next November.
