US President Joe Biden pledged on Monday to continue working to end the war in Gaza during the final months of his term, after stepping back from seeking a second term. He said he would work closely with the Israelis and Palestinians to try to figure out how to end the war.
"I am determined to continue working and I will remain committed to carrying out my duties as president and I will work to end the war in Gaza and bring peace to the Middle East," Biden said in a public call from his campaign headquarters, which has been transformed into the campaign headquarters of his running mate Kamala Harris.
The US president urged his supporters on Monday to support the nomination of his vice president Kamala Harris to run in the presidential race, considering that his withdrawal from the competition was "the right decision." He said: "I want to say to the team, support her. She is the best."
Harris, for her part, pledged on Monday to defeat Donald Trump in the November election, but acknowledged the “ups and downs” caused by Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race for the White House. “Over the next 106 days, we’re going to put our show to the American people, and we’re going to win,” Harris told campaign members in Delaware. “There have been ups and downs, and we’re all having a lot of mixed feelings about this, but I just want to say, I love Joe Biden.”
In the same context, Harris criticized Trump and said that "his radical project will return us to policies that gave tax benefits to the rich, will weaken the middle class, and will set the United States backwards." She added: "During my career as a prosecutor, I prosecuted criminals like Donald Trump, and I will confront my record against Trump's record, which was accused by a jury of sexual violence."
